Paul Klee Inspiration in Children's Art Class

See with one eye, feel with the other - Paul Klee

Introducing Paul Klee into children's art class is destined to be unique and interesting. I would like to share my experience of exploring the magical art world of Paul Klee's art with students in my art lessons. They are students age 6-10 mixed in a online class.

See with one eye, feel with the other - Paul Klee

First, I give a brief introduction to the artist's style and approach through demonstration images.

Paul Klee is a giant in the history of 20th century art, revered for his innovation in color and unique contribution to abstract art. He is an interesting artist with a unique combination of abstraction, symbolism and experimentation all reflected in his work.

Instead of a traditional step-by-step tutorial, I decided to give students a freer, more creative space. They can choose to copy Klee's works freehand or create their own artwork inspired by him. This is not just a class, but an artistic adventure.

We also introduced the use of limited color exercises into this class.

Color plays a crucial role in Klee's work. In this class, I asked the students to try to use only four colors, red, yellow, blue and green, except black. The main line is drawn in black, which emphasizes the shape. The contrast between the black block and the other four colors makes the whole work more layered.

In this project, students were able to experience Klee's artistic world in a childlike atmosphere, explore his unique style and methods, and experience his strong interest in symbolism. They let themselves go and were not constrained by worries about resemblance to reality. Instead, they experienced the childishness of art through drafts that were divorced from rationality.

In this course, I saw the creativity and enthusiasm released by the children in their creations, and I also discovered the Paul Klee deep in them. This is not only a painting, but also an expression of Klee's understanding of art and his personality.

Art is a process of discovery and expression, and Klee's works open the wonderful door to childlike painting for us.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
